A vessel engaged in mine clearance operations at anchor - shapes

  • Rule(s) to be applied: Rule 27 (Vessels not under command or restricted in their ability to manoeuvre)
    Rule 30 (Anchored vessels and vessels aground)
  • Applying the Rule(s) and comments: In accordance with Rule 27 (f) (Vessels not under command or restricted in their ability to manoeuvre), a vessel engaged in mine clearance operations shall in addition to the shapes prescribed for a vessel at anchor in Rule 30 (Anchored vessels and vessels aground), exhibit three balls. One of these shapes shall be exhibited near the foremast head and one at each end of the fore yard. These shapes indicate that it is dangerous for another vessel to approach within 1000 m of the mine clearance vessel.
    In accordance with Rule 30 (a) (Anchored vessels and vessels aground), a vessel at anchor shall exhibit where it can best be seen:
    (i) in the fore part, one ball.
